The properties of SilCor® DLC
The special diamond-like carbon SilCor® DLC shows a variety of superior properties which significantly increase the performance of machine components and tools. The wear resistant and friction lowering coatings consist - simply spoken - of diamonds of nanometer size embedded in graffitic phases. This nano-structure has led to the commonly used expession "diamond-like carbon" or DLC.
The coatings are - in contrast to the well-known PVD coatings - completely smooth an dense. SilCor® DLC coatings show:
- superior surface quality - there is no increase of roughness due to coating
- a very high corosion resistance against salts, acids and leaches
- a typical thickness of 2 µm
- an adjustable hardness between 1000 to 3500 HV
- a coefficient of frication against dry steel of 0,15
- a typical critical load of 60 N (which is substrate-dependent)
- heat-resistance under ambient air to - at least - 350 Celsius
